A structural asymmetry in intervention effects

چکیده
This paper documents a previously unnoted structural asymmetry amongwh-phrases with respect to interventioneffects. I show ina series of experiments (phonetic and syntactic) that inKorean (andpotentially in JapaneseandTurkish), onlywh-phrases that arebasegenerated in a structurally low position trigger intervention effects while wh-phrases generated in a high position do not. I show that these structural positions do not align with expectations from work on weak island effects: it is the syntactic position, not the semantic type, of the wh-phrase that matters. This result supports an important insight that the sensitivity to IEs does not necessarily depend on the argument-adjunct difference (Rizzi, 1992; Miyagawa, 2002). I further show how these empirical contrasts are accounted for along the lines of theearlierworkon interventioneffects, whichmadeuseof structural constraints statedover LF representations. 2010 Elsevier B.V. Manipulation Effect on Lumbar Kinematics in Patients with Unilateral Innominate Rotation and Comparison with Asymptomatic Subjects
Background: Lumbar motion analysis is used as a clinical method in the diagnosis and treatment of low back pain (LBP). So far, no studies have shown if manipulating the sacroiliac joint (SIJ) will change spinal kinematics. Objective: The main objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of SIJ manipulation on the lumbar kinematics in subjects with innominate rotation and to compare l...
متن کاملInvestigating the relationship among information asymmetry, dividend policy and ownership structure
The purpose of a financial manager in dividend policy is to maximize the wealth of its owners while providing adequate funds for the company. In this research, the aim is to determine the relationship between information asymmetry, dividend policies and ownership structure. After designing information asymmetry evaluation indicators, the transaction information has been collected from the Stock...
متن کاملClinical Trial of Frontal Alpha Asymmetry Neurofeedback for the Improvement Executive Functions and the Reduction of Rumination in Reactive Depression Result of Love Trauma
Depressed people, unlike non-depressed, show the higher the right frontal lobe activity than the left frontal lobe. Because the right hemisphere associated with negative emotional processing, pessimistic and maladaptive thinking styles, and the frontal alpha power is the inverse index of cortical activity, the frontal alpha power asymmetry reflects the balance between the left and right hemisph...
متن کاملAn argument/adjunct asymmetry in wh-questions
Contra previous uniform approaches for wh-phrases, the current paper argues that there is a clear asymmetry between in-situ argument and adjunct wh-phrases with respect to Intervention Effects (IEs) in Korean and Japanese. Based on the categorical (nominal vs. adverbial) dichotomy evidenced by structural case attachment tests and formation of complex wh-expressions, different base locations for...
متن کاملThe effect of postural restoration exercises on function and isokinetic torque of shoulder external and internal rotator muscles in non-professional athletes with shoulder internal impingement syndrome
Introduction: Internal Shoulder impingement is one of the most common problems in athletes with postural asymmetry. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of postural restoration exercises on patients' disabilities and the torque of the shoulder rotator muscles. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial study, 23 patients with internal shoulder entrapment were randomly divided in...
